Remembering Nelson Mandela

Remembering Nelson Mandela

Today marks what would have been the 100th birthday of Nelson Mandela. In 2009, the UN declared July 18th as Nelson Mandela day to recognise and celebrate the life and achievements of one of the most influential figures of our time.

Before his death in in 2013, I was approached to create some live artwork as part of an event to celebrate what would have been his 95th Birthday. During the event, I was to create a live portrait painting of the great man which would be auctioned off after the event. The painting would also be printed in a book about his life which would then be gifted to his family.

Sadly Nelson Mandela became critically ill in June that year and was fighting for his life on his 95th birthday. Needless to say the event never went ahead but I decided that I wanted to paint him anyway to celebrate his life. What I wanted to show with my painting was a sense of defiance which he had embodied throughout his life. A life so full of life, struggle, love and accomplishment.

May your soul rest in peace.

Michael was booked by Fujifilm to draw digital caricatures of delegates at UKRCO2018. Michael drew the body templates with the FDR Nano before the show and then on the day, the faces would be draw on top of the template.

Mkcaricatures have been booked by Ah Media to draw at all their networking conferences in 2018. This particular conference was attended by representatives from over 50 different software companies. As always, it was wonderful to draw at the beautiful Heythrop Park Resort Hotel and there were plenty of wonderful faces to caricatures. Here are a few of our favourites from the day.
